The daily Routine

It is important that we have routines to provide children with consistency, it is also important that we are flexible to meet children's individual needs. From the moment children arrive, there will be a choice of activities for both indoor and outdoor play. We offer a wide range of experiences including:

  • Sand and water
  • Art and Craft
  • Books and stories
  • Construction play
  • Role play
  • Mark.making
  • Science
  • Maths
  • Music

As a free flow nursery we provide children with choice between activities. At first children will usually flutter between activities, this is normal as part of their natural exploratory impulse. As part of their development children usually learn how to make the most of our stimulating environment quickly.

 Food

At St Peter's Children's Centre we have set meal times providing fresh food prepared by our resident cook on site. Breakfast 7.30 to 8.30 Morning snack 10.00 (approximately) Lunch 12.00 (approximate)  Afternoon tea 3pm. We cater for individual dietary requirements in partnership with the families. We plan menus to ensure we provide a balanced nutritional diet on a daily basis.

Children's development reviews
Each child will be given at least two parent / carer reviews per year, this is to formalise the on going assessments and to give parents and carers the opportunity to contribute to their child's documentation. The child's key person will invite the parent/s or carer/s to spend some time discussing their child's developmental records and agree targets for their child. However we do invite all parents and carers to discuss their child's needs at any time.

Moving up from crawlers to walkers
Babies move up to the walkers zone usually when they are between twelve and twenty four months. The timing will depend entirely on your child's needs and their stage of development, and the move will occur in consultation and partnership with parents/carers. Before moving up each child will have visits to the walkers zone for increasing lengths each day leading up to their move so they become familiar with the new surroundings. You will be introduced to your child's new key worker before your child visits the walkers. You will also be invited to meet the staff and see the walkers unit where your child will be spending their time.
